Have the comments made by Trent Lott made it more difficult for the Republican Party to lead important reforms in welfare, taxes, social security and the appointment of judicial nominees? Yes or No.

Trent Lott and the Deep South
Trent Lott is a product of his heritage. Anyone having lived in the Deep South, as I have, will tell you that it's a different world - culture that is. The culture of the Deep South leans heavily in favor of voluntary segregation.
To many blacks in the South, simply being a white business man is synonymous with being a racist. It is a society segregated by choice. I will never forget watching Boy Scout troops from the same small community march in a parade. First came the all white troop then came the all black troop. A white police officer in Mobile, Al. once told me, “I'm not prejudiced. I mean, I don't wanna eat with'em. I don't wanna go to church with'em. I don't wanna socialize with'em. But I'm not prejudiced. I just want to be with white people.” He was serious. I just shook my head in disbelief. It would have done no good to point out the obvious to him.
The black community in the Deep South is just as happy with voluntary segregation. Every black church is completely black. No integration welcome. Black organizations proliferate in the community and are solidly and voluntarily segregated. African-this and African-that clubs, groups, and organizations all exclude whites. Black only colleges dot our country's landscape but, for some odd reason, no-one views these colleges as innately racist. Race based institutions are all racist.
Once I attended a large Baptist Church and was completely shocked not to see one black person in the 6000 member congregation. That was my first and last visit. There's just something wrong with people who exclude diversity of race, faith and thought. I will never forget a “genteel southern white lady” who came to my office to complain that I had “too many black's” working at my store. That very same day, I was walking in the parking lot and witnessed a black female, who quickly cross-parked two parking spaces with her car, get out and tell a white woman, “You white people need to get out of here. There's just too many damn white people.” But in the minds of most black leaders she can't be a racist. It's just not possible.
Trent Lott isn't supposed to represent the cultural values of Mississippi when he leads the U.S. Senate. He's supposed to represent the Republican Party. The comments he made at Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party have made life more difficult for the Republican Party. Important reforms in welfare, taxes and social security have all been set back by Lott's Freudian slip. If anyone thought judicial appointments were tough before, forget about getting good conservative judges appointed. Lott's leadership presence just makes governing tougher. For this reason, Lott should step down as Majority Leader.
Lott may be a great southerner but southern views on segregation fall behind mainstream America by about 25 years. Praising the “Dixiecrat” segregationist agenda is best kept to the confines of a historically black college or university where modern day segregation is viewed as a matter of pride.
Or, on the other hand, he could go to BET (Black Entertainment Network) where integration is discouraged as well. Oops! He's already done that hasn't he?

What is the Origin of the term Politically Correct?
The phrase “gradually entered the language beginning with the feminist and other left-wing movements of the 1970s. Used (first?) in H. V. Morton's 'In the Steps of St. Paul' (1936). 'To use such words would have been equivalent to calling his audience 'slaves and robbers'. But 'Galatians', a term that was politically correct, embraced everyone under Roman rule...'.”

Senator Jim Williamson Responds
I received a copy of the email from your website “Modern Patriot Chronicles.”
The Headline question you raise is “Will Republican Legislative Leaders have the Guts to Cut State Budgets?”
You then quoted my statement in support of referring a motor fuels tax increase to a vote of the people. You also mentioned my statement about the “C” word, as if I were talking about “C” standing for “cuts.”
The “C” I was referring to was “consolidation.” The speakers at the Chamber forum session before us spoke of consolidation as the “C” word and how Largent's Campaign statements supporting school consolidation was, in their opinion, a big factor in his losing the election.
I am sorry you misunderstood the reference.
As to your concern about my supporting budget cuts, let me assure you that I have repeatedly supported cuts, and was one of the few Senate Republicans who voted and supported more legislative cuts last year than was recommended during the appropriation process. Check the record.
Further, you need not worry as to whether Republican leaders in the legislature are going to be more willing to cut state budgets than Democrats. Since my involvement in Oklahoma politics over the last twenty years, Republican legislators have been at the forefront on demanding efficient use of tax dollars. The current Senate Republican leadership team will continue those efforts.
I hope this helps to clear up your misunderstanding of the “C” word in my comments at the forum.
Sincerely,
Senator James A. Williamson
My Comments:
I'm glad that Senator Williamson cleared this issue up. He is correct that I wasn't present during the prior forum where the “C” word stood for “Consolidation.” Also, I particularly like the use of the word “consolidation” as opposed to the word “cut.” If and when I make cuts to my business payroll, I won't tell the employee that their job has been cut. I'll tell them that it's been consolidated. Job consolidation would be cause for celebration since someone else would get to experience new job opportunities and challenges. Yeah I like consolidation. Count me in on consolidation. Consolidation does a body good.
And I look forward to “efficient use of tax dollars” too.

EEOC vs. RD Drive-in (Unbelievable!)
The EEOC is busting with pride in its first ever English Only lawsuit.
The EEOC press release states:
www.eeoc.gov/press/9-30-02-c.html
“The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced that it filed a national origin discrimination lawsuit under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on behalf of Native American employees who were subjected to an unlawful English-only policy precluding them from speaking Navajo in the workplace and terminating them for refusing to sign an agreement to abide by the restrictive language policy. The lawsuit, the first-ever English-only suit by the Commission on behalf of Native Americans, was filed by the EEOC's Phoenix District Office against RD's Drive-In, a diner located in Page, Arizona - a community adjacent to the Navajo reservation.”
The EEOC justifies the lawsuit and lists the following company policy as evidence.
RD's posted a policy stating:
"The owner of this business can speak and understand only English. While the owner is paying you as an employee, you are required to use English at all times. The only exception is when the customer can not understand English. If you feel unable to comply with this requirement, you may find another job."
Mary O'Neill, EEOC Acting Regional Attorney of the Phoenix District Office, said "This case represents a rare lawsuit by the EEOC challenging workplace language restrictions directed at native languages. It is amazing that, in a country that cherishes diversity, an employer will prohibit the use of indigenous languages in the workplace and terminate Native American employees who question whether that is lawful. In fact, in 1990, Congress enacted a statute specifically designed to protect and preserve Native languages."
The EEOC is now telling an independent business owner that he doesn't have right to demand that his employees speak in a language that is understandable to both himself and his customers. I guess he's lucky that they are Native Americans. They could have been Iranians plotting the next 9-11 instead. But OH WELL. That's not the EEOC's problem I suppose.
The EEOC lawsuit is seeking monetary relief, including back pay with compensatory and punitive damages. RD's website,
www.rdsdrive-in.com
The Kidman's say “that in order to protect their employees, they followed the advice provided on the EEOC website and adopted a policy that required employees to speak English while working.”
How do you say STUPID in Navaho? EEOC (EEE-EEE-OOHH-SEE)
You have got to be kidding about John Erling. Oklahoma City may have a pathetic morning host but Erling is the biggest friends of liberal politicians in the state.
During the campaign, he ridiculed Steve Largent, Jim Inhofe, Chad Stites, Frank Keating and Denise Bode while he gushed over Brad Carson, Brad Henry,David Walters and Drew Edmondson. His wife Margaret raised money for Walters, for goodness sakes.
I am not familiar with your newsletter, but if you expect to have any credibility with Tulsa conservatives you certainly won't be praising Erling, a genuine RINO.

HEAR! HEAR!
This goes for both parties in Oklahoma. They just don't get it. Do they? Oklahoma is like a very sick person refusing to seek medical help. By the time they are at deaths door they realize they need help, they are too far gone, and the effect of the medicine kills them. THE ONLY HOPE FOR OKLAHOMA IS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. That means doing away with our restrictive adversarial workers comp system and excessive corporation taxes. We have to take the medicine while the body is still strong enough to affect the cure. That is now.
We would have enough motor fuels tax to build and maintain our transportation infrastructure if we didn't illegally drain off half the revenue into the general fund. When Senator Rabon, at a public meeting was asked about a five cent additional gas tax and how he would ensure it went to the transportation infrastructure, he said we would pass a law requiring three cents of the tax be dedicated to highway and bridge construction and maintenance and only two cents would be sent to the general fund. Amazing, he stood in an open meeting and skimmed off 40% of the new tax even before he had it!
I agree with you 100% we need to hold the line on this tax business. The State, Counties, Cities and other government entities cannot continue their growth as the major employers in the state. The government cannot become its own tax base. That's insanity.
