"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming."

The Black Pledge of Allegiance

"We pledge allegiance of the red, black and green, our flag..."
"the symbol of our eternal struggle, and to the land we must obtain..."
"one nation of black people, with one god for us all, totally united in the struggle for black love, black freedom and black determination."

The Great Racial Divide

R ecently I attended a football game at an Oklahoma City high school where the home team's band played the "Black National Anthem" before playing the "American National Anthem." Many black high schools play the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing" as a tribute to black pride. Left-wing ideologues justify racial pride as an important and necessary activity. I call it racism.

Derrick A. Jones, a self-described "Black columnist" (members.tripod.com/~revpd) recently wrote; "One thing a lot of people wonder is why they don't see a lot of Black people sing "Star Spangled Banner." Many of us feel that it is not our anthem." Jones explained that the words, written by Francis Scott Key, "did not express the feelings of Black people."

Jones wrote, "In 1814, Blacks weren't considered citizens and could only be counted as three fifths of a person. I guess Key could call America 'the land of the free' because the actual citizens of America were free. In 1931 we were free, but we were not the Americans of that song. We have yet to be the Americans of that song." While there is no question that the song was written in an era where blacks were enslaved, the song endures today as a symbol of freedom for all Americans. Yes for ALL Americans.

But Jones doesn't agree. He writes, "I prefer to sing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" because the words express the struggle of Black people in America. It's words to me, pay tribute to Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Frederick Douglass, Medgar Evers, Marcus Garvey, Crispus Attucks and other soldiers who fought for my freedom."

It's amazing that Jones can't bring himself to name one white person who fought for his freedom. But it's this kind of racist rhetoric that never gets challenged or criticized. I'll gleefully acknowledge his list of soldiers. But why is it that Jones and others like him cannot give credit to white Americans for fighting for the freedoms of black Americans.

The very song he prefers to sing was written for school children to sing in celebration of a great and well known white man…. President Abraham Lincoln. I guess Lincoln didn't do enough to make Jones' list. But there's something happening in the black community that has befuddled even the most racist left-winger. The development of a conservative movement within the black community threatens to end radical left-wing intellectual enslavement of black Americans.

The Black Conservative Movement

P roof of this, "intellectual enslavement," is best demonstrated in a recent editorial ( www.ExodusNews.com ) written by La Shawn M. Barber titled "Sticks and Stones." Barber describes herself as a "conservative black woman." Barber writes, "Nigger. Pickaninny. Monkey. Sambo. These are a few of the names white people called black people to their faces back in the day. Traitor. Ventriloquist dummies. Handkerchief Head. Con Man. Uncle Tom (or Thomasina). These are a few of the names that certain black people call black conservatives today."

She further writes, "Affirmative action should be completely abolished, the sponsorship of exclusive, race-based gatherings by "objective" newspapers is disgraceful, and the very idea of reparations for slavery is ridiculous." Barber admits that it is "heresy" for a black person to hold such views in the black community. Her article expresses frustration that the mere mention of "black conservatives" brings emotionalism from supposed "black leaders." The recent outburst from Harry Belafonte demonstrates the "emotionalism" Barber describes.

Belafonte said of Secretary of State Colin Powell, "There's an old saying. In the days of slavery, there were those slaves who lived on the plantation and [there] were those slaves that lived in the house. You got the privilege of living in the house if you served the master ... exactly the way the master intended to have you serve him. Colin Powell's committed to come into the house of the master. When Colin Powell dares to suggest something other than what the master wants to hear, he will be turned back out to pasture."

Barber wrote that liberal blacks say that black conservatives are simply "mouth pieces" for white conservatives. But instead of fighting the rhetoric with name calling, Barber asks why black liberals will not address the issue of high illegitimacy rates in the black community? "A disproportionately high percentage of black babies grow up without fathers. These children grow up to become unmarried, teenage parents who have children who grow up to become unmarried, teenage parents, and so on, until the pathology slowly (or quickly, as the case may be) rots the organism. Innumerable problems in the black community stem from this one, incontrovertible issue (for lack of space can't be enumerated here). But, according to black liberals, the fault lies with the racist attitudes and policies of the oppressors."

Barber asks some substantive questions while her detractors hurl only insults in response. She writes, "Independent, critical thinking is considered a heresy in the black community. Stray one inch from the party-line, and out comes a barrage of insults and ridicule, and downright disrespect. Contrary to the familiar rhyme about sticks and stones, words hurt all of us in more ways than we think."

The Hated Reverend Jesse

N ot only are insults hurled at conservative blacks, sometimes lives are threatened. Many may have heard of the Reverend Jesse Peterson. Peterson is the founder of BOND (Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny). BOND's mission is to rebuild the family by "rebuilding the man." The focus of his organization stresses the importance of "self reliance, honesty and helping others through patience." He also operates BOND Home for Boys. And he does all of this without the help of civil rights leaders in the black community. In fact, he is one of the most outspoken critics of the civil-rights establishment. Peterson is a black leader that left-wing zealots most love to hate.

An article written by the Rational Radical.com ( www.rationalradical.com ) pokes fun at Peterson on several fronts. "Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson: A Sick Man? It's an elementary principle of psychiatry that we often accuse others of being guilty of that which we most don't want to recognize in ourselves. Rev. Peterson's lament that Jesse Jackson may have him killed, as well as the allegations by Rev. Peterson in his lawsuit, reflect the same type of whining, self-aggrandizing sense of victimhood that Peterson accuses mainstream civil rights groups of fostering in the African-American community. In all honesty, I actually feel a little sorry for the guy."

The Rational Radical quotes Aleem Boatright (senior-nuclear engineering), a member of Penn State's Black Caucus. "I think he's mistaken and narrow-minded. He's about as close to racist as a black man could be." How so? For disagreeing with radical left-wing leaders or for something he's done personally? Nothing has been said to denigrate his BOND mission. So what's the problem with the Reverend Jesse Peterson?

On the Fox News show Hannity & Colmes, Peterson said, "Over the last 12 years, Sean, I've been called nigger, Uncle Tom. I've had guns drawn on me. But my experience with Jesse Jackson and his friends, his associates on December 10 was something that I will never forget. And for the first time I had a real threat -- I mean, fear for my life. And I want to even make the statement here, if anything should happen to me -- Sean, you are a friend of mine - I urge you to turn this tape over to the authorities and ask them to look at Jesse Jackson, his friends or associates, to arrest them before they do anyone else, because I am concerned for my life." Why all of this animosity towards Peterson?

Racism For All to See

A n August 8, 2002 Chicago Sun-Times editorial written by University of Pennsylvania Religious Studies Professor Michael Eric Dyson, clearly advocates and promotes racism against Peterson.

The editorial began, "If you've ever wondered what a self-hating black man who despises black culture and worships at the altar of whiteness looks like, take a gander at the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson." Despises the black culture? Worships at the alter of whiteness? It is Dyson who preaches from the alter of racism. He has become racism's greatest defender. No one in the civil rights establishment has denounced his racist comments. Reversing the words black to white, white to black would make the most ardent Klansman beam with pride.

Dyson's op-ed did nothing to speak against racism or injustice. It was a hit piece on a conservative black activist and it was an attempt to discourage other blacks from leaving the ideological plantation that strangles free expression in the black community. But it doesn't end here. J.C. Watts, Clarence Thomas and other conservative blacks are mercilessly brow beaten by the civil rights establishment.

The lack of philosophical diversity in the black community has locked up generation upon generation of black Americans who deserve the freedom to express their differences with a leadership grounded in race-baiting and political bondage. There is no incentive for either political party to be concerned about the needs of black America. The Democrats know that they are required to do nothing in order to get the black vote. Republicans understand that there is nothing they can do to attract broad support in the black community.

If Martin Luther King were alive today and ran for public office as a Republican, the radical left-wingers would attempt to destroy him as well. There's no denying that racism exists today just as it did in the past. I'm for exposing all racism and rooting it out of the American experience. Fighting racism with racism does nothing but perpetuate injustice and hatred.

Injustice and hatred seems to power much of the radical left-wing agenda. Nazi minister of propaganda Joseph Goebbels said, "The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it." The radical left would make Goebbels proud.

Regarding the Chad Stites Situation

I find it very interesting that the leaders of the State Republican party would ask the Rep. in Tulsa to resign if elected. No question, if the reports I hear are true, this guy is one arrogant jerk.

Being on the road a lot I have the opportunity to drive through Tulsa and I listen to "Erling in the morning" and I find him to be very liberal. I do not know if he is telling the truth or not about the Republican Rep or not. He has made it clear to me after listening to Erling for years he does not like Republicans.

When Wallace Collins lied about his Republican and Democratic opponents the Democrat party apparently thought it was OK as long as you win. They embraced him into the Democrat caucus. You never heard a word from the Democrat leaders about Collins having to pay almost $100,000 for damages for lying. Did they ask him to resign?

What I find about Democrats is when you're losing, break the rules and cheat, cheat, cheat, but win, win, win. Take the New Jersey State Senate race. Torricelli is not dead, he is not incapacitated, he is not in jail, he was just losing in the poles, so the leaders of the Democrat Party asked him to resign. The Democrats say geez we need someone to run on the Democrat ticket so the voters will have a choice. So the Democrats change the rules to suit their needs. Its like a child killing his parents and then saying, please give me mercy because I have no parents. How much more of this type of crap do we take!

The point is when the Republican party is aware of an embarrassing situation they act and try to solve the problem. The Democrat party is never in an embarrassing situation they just want to win, win, win. And you know what, the Democrats seem to be winning and this concerns me.

I assume Chad Alexander has checked into the Tulsa situation and has not taken the word of John Erling or the media. I do believe if this person was a Democrat the Democrat party would not be asking him to resign. They would not criticize him, in fact, they would not be saying a word. I applaud the Oklahoma Republican leaders for taking action and again I assume they have checked into the situation.

Enjoyed your chicken article, keep up the good work.

Regarding the Race for Governor

I received my first email newsletter from you. I found the information enjoyable. I do have a question for you. It is clear you are endorsing Gary Richardson as Governor because you feel he has a clear plan for education. But, where does he stand on moral issues like abortion? I know he supports a state lottery which in my mind is a moral issue. Lloyd Roettger even says we have enough money for education it is just poorly managed. So, are the moral issues just not important to you or are you willing to overlook them for the sake of education reform? Do we create an immoral state endorsed and supported gaming program to attempt to pump more money into an immoral, broken education system? My opinion here may be premature because I have not read any of your other comments but based only on what I saw in this issue I have my concerns. Thanks for the newsletter.

J.M.

My comments: For the record, I support Largent. The lottery will be explored in future issues of MPC newsletter.
