One Difference Between Democrats and Republicans

The deposal of Trent Lott very clearly exposes stark differences between Republican and Democratic activists. When Lott's distasteful comments were made public, many conservative activists demanded he resign as Senate Majority Leader.

When former President Bill Clinton perjured himself while giving testimony to a federal judge, federal prosecutors, the American people, his wife and Monica Lewinsky; Democratic Party activists were not calling for his resignation. They were heaping praise upon him. Al Gore exclaimed that Clinton was one of the greatest presidents in our nation's history.

There were no calls for his resignation from the National Organization of Woman (NOW). Many of the women Clinton harassed were further victimized by the IRS who audited them. And still there were no calls for his resignation. There were no warnings posted on the NOW website warning women of Clinton's predilections. Everyone knows that NOW is nothing but a Democratic Party front bent on killing the maximum number of unborn babies. NOW has wasted no time in belittling President Bush on their website ( www.now.org ).

The Lott episode proves that many (not all) Republican Party activists will hold their leaders accountable while most Democratic Party activists are just a bunch of groupies looking for their next gig. The manner in which Republican activists arose proves there is still principle to be found in the Republican Party.

Most Democrat activists need only to know that you have a "D" after your name. That's enough. I suppose that explains why ex-Klansman Sen. Robert Byrd-D, West Virginia, served as Democratic Senate Leader for 12 years. Within the last year on Fox News Sunday, Byrd said, "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I'm going to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I'd just as soon quit talking about it so much."

Demands for his resignation swiftly came from Republican activists. There were no calls for his resignation from Democrat activists. While liberal groups continue to denounce Republicans as a bigoted party, Democrats do nothing about Byrd proving that these groups really don't care about bigotry at all.

Byrd also filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act for 14 hours while a majority of Republican Senators supported it. Byrd opposed the Supreme Court nominations of black-liberal Thurgood Marshall and black-conservative Clarence Thomas.

Today Byrd is an active leader in the Democratic Party. Currently he serves as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. If Democratic activists are really serious about getting tough on racial bigotry, it's time to demand Byrd's resignation.

But we all know that Democrats are all talk on the issue of race.

Republicans and Democrats: Is There A Significant Difference?

I just read your Modern Patriot Chronicles. When I hear empty words from a Republican legislator about "demanding efficient use of tax dollars," I cringe. The recent study from the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs shows that Oklahoma government spending doubled between 1990 and 2002. Doubled!! As we all know, during the last 8 years of that 12 year period, Oklahoma has had a Republican governor who, with the support of Republican legislators, could veto and sustain the veto, on every dime of Democrat proposed spending.

The Republican Party, both in Oklahoma and nationally, has a limited number of principled leaders. To get the votes of us "rubes," GOP officials mouth conservative ideals such as lower taxes, less spending, and smaller government. But then they join with Democrats to raise taxes, raise spending, and enlarge government. Look at spending at the federal level. Since 1994 when Republicans took over both houses of Congress, federal government spending has gone up faster that ever. The government we now have in this Country is not only not the government designed and envisioned by the founders; the government we now have is the very government the founders warned us against: centralized, all-powerful, and ever-growing.

 The fight for genuine limited government is not now between the Republican and Democrat parties. The fight is within the Republican party itself, between "big government conservatives" (neo-cons of the Bush/Rockefeller strain) who currently control the GOP, and Reaganite grass-roots conservatives. Conservatives are going to have to take back their own party before they can even address "tax and spend Democrats", and ever hope to deliver "efficient use of tax dollars."
